What is BMI?

BMI (Body Mass Index) is a simple calculation using a person's height and weight. It is widely used as a screening tool to categorize weight status (underweight, healthy weight, overweight, or obese).

Is BMI accurate for athletes?

Not always. Because muscle is denser than fat, athletes or bodybuilders may have a high BMI despite having low body fat. In these cases, BMI may classify them as "overweight" incorrectly.

What are the standard ranges?

Generally, a BMI below 18.5 is considered underweight, 18.5–24.9 is healthy, 25–29.9 is overweight, and 30 or above is considered obese.
